We get asked ALL THE TIME: When should I send out my Save the Dates? What’s the time frame for sending out wedding invitations? And of course: Do you have any recommendations on where to get those  beautiful save the date and wedding invitations?

The answer to all of the above is: YES! We can help!  I am SO thrilled to share with you the answers to all of those questions along with some pretty, pretty paper eye-candy courtesy of Basic Invite.com

I’m a teeeensy bit snobby when it comes to paper or paperie as the French say! (Which I would know thanks to my French degree ;)) There’s something so “haute vie” about gold foil, raised printing, and beautiful table place cards in luxuriously velvet papers. I could easily spend a small fortune on these sweet little luxurious in my life – especially with my super classic and traditional aesthetic; but I am happy to announce: THAT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE CASE. You are in SO MUCH LUCK today because I’ve got the down low on an incredible wedding stationery company that is at once affordable and luxurious! And BONUS! I’ve got a little coupon code for you to take 20% off your order!

So, now, on to your burning questions about the Save the Date and invitation timeline:

  1.  Save the Dates typically go out 4-6 months prior to your wedding – though there are no hard and fast rules! If you are planning a destination wedding, you may want to send out Save the Date cards 9-12 months in advance! If you really want to make things super simple for yourselves, Basic Invite offers Free Address Collection Service – all you have to do is share a link, collect addresses, and get free envelope printing! What?! That’s amazing!

2. Your wedding invitations will go in the mail 1-2 months before your wedding! There’s some CRUCIAL info, though, you will want to have nailed down before you can send out your invitations: including the start time of your ceremony! Some couples will commit to a hard and fast ceremony start time without chatting with their photographer first. Of course, it’s not required; but, what better way to to ensure you’ve got excellent lighting and a beautifully flowing day than by asking the those of us who are the lighting experts? Not only that, I consider myself a wedding day time line strategist! I love planning for a beautifully flowing wedding day time line and we include a custom time line for each of our couples completely complimentary in all of our packages!

There so much more wedding etiquette info to be found at Basic Invite!  After just a quick perusal, I learned so much I wish I would known when Stephen and I were planning our wedding!

And, finally, if you know anything about me, you know that I’m a BIG believer in planning and previewing! I love a bridal portrait session because I believe it is so helpful to be able to preview your full look on camera before the wedding day. Well, I’m also a firm believer that you should be able to preview your full invitation suite before committing to purchasing 300 copies. Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers the ability to order a printed sample of their actual invitation so they can see exactly how it will print as well as the paper quality before they ever have to place their final order! And… um…. hello?! Can you say peel and seal envelopes? Save your spit for your honey! 😉
